How one woman found her wedding dress after a tornado destroyed her house
When an F-5 tornado destroyed an Illinois woman’s home in April, she lost basically everything — including her wedding dress.
But thanks to one man’s kindness, Kelly Newman was reunited on Tuesday with her beloved white dress, which had traveled nearly 30 miles during the storm. Roger Miller, a farmer from Belvidere, Ill., told ABC News that he found the dress while cleaning up debris from the tornado.
“I had over eight truckloads of debris on my 80-acre field, and when I found the dress, I thought, ‘My golly, that’s a beautiful dress!’” Miller, 73, said to ABC News. “It was still on its hanger, but it was soiled quite a bit. I brought it back home and told my wife we should try to find who owns the dress.” Then, Miller’s wife used Facebook to figure out that the dress belonged to Newman, who lives in Rockford. And not only did he return it, but Miller also restored the dress, shipping it to a bridal shop in Buffalo, New York to get the garment looking as good as the day it was first worn.
“I was so surprised and overwhelmed with how good it looked, pretty much brand new,” Newman said to ABC News. “Mr. Miller could’ve just thrown it away, but you know, out of the kindness of his heart, he knew it belonged to someone and wanted to get it back to us, and I’m so grateful and blessed for that.”
