These websites and apps will help you actually keep your New Year’s resolution

Have you got the most rad New Year’s resolution in mind, but you’re worried you won’t follow through with it? Hey, you’re not alone — it can be really difficult to stick to a resolution for even a month, let alone all year long. In fact, according to Statistic Brain Research Institute, just 8% of people actually achieve their resolution.

But don’t let that dissuade you from trying, because technology is on your side (it’s almost 2016, after all!). There are lots of websites and apps that will help you stay on track and achieve your ultimate New Year’s dreams. Whether your goal is to lose weight (which happens to be the most popular resolution), quit smoking, or get organized, we’ve got the perfect websites and apps for you.

If your goal is: To eat better

Let’s start with the most popular resolution, shall we: Health. There are plenty of food trackers out there, but Eat This Much is probably one of the best. It automatically creates meal plans for you, personalized to match your goals. It can even be customized to match your food preferences, your schedule, and your budget.

If your goal is: To learn a language

Duolingo is an effective, fun, and free way to learn a language. No need to drop hundreds of dollars on Rosetta Stone!

If your goal is: To start — or get better at — running

Want to run a race by the end of 2016, but don’t feel like ambling away on a treadmill for ages with no change of scenery? RunKeeper is the perfect app. It motivates you, provides fitness plans from expert coaches, and even allows you to share your running on social media so you and your friends can get fit together even if you’re thousands of miles away.

If your goal is: To save money

In a nutshell, the way to save money is to learn where you’re spending it the most and figure out ways to cut that down. Penny does that for you by telling you exactly how and where you’re spending it. . . by dividing spending into four simple categories.

If your goal is: To get into yoga

If yoga studios aren’t for you — or if you want to save money! — you can still get your yoga on. For your desktop computer, you can use DoYogaWithMe for great tutorials and videos (I highly suggest you hook up your computer to the TV and make your living room your studio!). Or, if you’re on-the-go, you can use the app Daily Yoga.

If your goal is: To get your home organized

It’s been a crazy busy year, and maybe your abode isn’t as clean as you’d like. You don’t have to wait until spring to do some serious deep-cleaning. HomeRoutines is a great app that divides your house into “zones” and encourages you to spend 15 minutes cleaning in your daily focus “zone.” That way, you won’t have to do deep cleaning from now on — just a little bit of cleaning every day!

If your goal is: To quit smoking

Generally, smokers would describe quitting as anything but fun, but Kwit tries to make it as fun as possible by using games to stop and distract the cravings.

If your goal is: To stand up more often

Sitting for long periods of time is really bad for you, but it can be really difficult to avoid it if you have a desk job (or if you just really enjoy sitting — no judgments). Yep, there’s an app for that. Stand Up! is a “fun, flexible work break timer” that gets you to stand up and get the blood flowing in your legs.

If your goal is: To work on your productivity

Ever find that your day seems to just go by so quickly, and you don’t even know what you did with it? RescueTime can help with that by analyzing your work habits.

Happy New Year, folks!
