We shouldn’t have to say this, but: Don’t drive and selfie stick

Heyyyyy everybody, remember when we went over selfie stick etiquette? Well, the quickest way to sum it all up is very similar to doctors’ Hippocratic Oath: Do no harm. Everywhere from museums to music festivals to the Disney parks have enacted selfie stick restrictions, if not outright bans, because the pursuit of the perfect selfie shouldn’t infringe on or actually hurt anyone else.

Well, that idea certainly extends to driving. When you’re on the road, it’s tough enough to pay attention to everything you should be doing, let alone prepare for what other drivers might be doing. Though this extends to texting while driving too (which a third of teens still do, sigh), using a selfie stick while driving should be an absolute no-brainer, except, well, people still do it.

So, what are the consequences of focusing on someone’s phone screen versus any of your car’s mirrors and the road? Something like the following:

While nobody in the video was hurt, can we all agree that driving is already difficult and kind of scary to do and that the last thing you should be trying to do is create a viral video on the road? Like, if you’re making Vines in your empty cul-de-sac, that’s one thing, but as soon as other drivers get involved, it’s time to stop. Otherwise, your video will indeed go viral — but as a cautionary tale.
