Disney collabed with music’s coolest artists for this magical album of covers

The Internet loves to reimagine Disney characters — with iconic haircuts, as Renaissance paintings, as tattooed pin-ups, you get the gist. But what about Disney songs? Any one of us can spontaneously burst into Disney song when prompted (and unprompted too), but Disney’s done us all one better by commissioning some of music’s coolest voices to cover some of their greatest hits for the third, and U.S.-centric, We Love Disney compilation.

For those of you who don’t obsessively follow Disney news, We Love Disney already has two volumes of covers out. Vol. 1 focused on French artists (and gave us gorgeous translations like “L’amour brille sous les étoiles” = “Can you feel the love tonight”), while Vol. 2 focused on Australian artists like Kimbra and Dannii Minogue. But for the U.S. version, Disney went all out — Ariana Grande, Jason Derulo, Gwen Stefani, Fall Out Boy, Kacey Musgrave, Jhené Aiko and more of the industry’s shiniest stars are all contributing covers, and each song we’ve heard so far meshes together the artist’s original sound with the Disney tune’s timeless sentiment and melody.

What we’ve heard so far is enchanting — Jessie Ware in particular was utterly enchanting on her glittering cover of “A Dream Is A Wish The Heart Makes.” (Though, uh, she’s British?) And now, Complex has premiered Jhené Aiko singer-songwriter’s breezy take on two Alice in Wonderland classics: “In A World Of My Own / Very Good Advice.”

Aiko’s voice has that ragged quality that makes everything her sound like she’s on the verge of crying, but that adds to the melancholy vibe of both songs. Listen to Aiko’s cover below:

The full track list for We Love Disney is below, and the full covers album drops on October 30. Alas, there’s no cover of “This Is Halloween” (we WISH), but for all of you doing Disney-themed Halloween parties (you know who you are), this’ll be true to theme and get the party started.
