4 ways to give back for the holidays because that’s what it’s all about

It’s important to remember the real meaning of Thanksgiving and we’re not just talking turkey. Sure, the food and sports are fun, and seeing your family can be great (so long as you avoid any pesky political confrontations). But the real importance behind Thanksgiving is to pause and appreciate everything you have in life, including a lot which you take for granted. There are lots of ways to give back for the holidays and throughout the winter. Really, what better time to give a little thanks back to the world? Whether donating your time and energy to a charity or doing a small random act of kindness, there are so many ways to make a difference. Here are just a few of the ways you can give back this Thanksgiving season.

Actually volunteer.

Volunteering can get complicated during the holidays, because charities get bombarded with requests. So sign up and stay super, super local. Find a food bank or soup kitchen in your area. Offer to deliver meals, run a toy drive or a food drive and follow through. Social media can work wonders.

Make a donation.

It can be time or money, but there are countless charities out there that could use your help and support during the holiday season. Offer up some time and get hands-on with an organization to see the full impact of your efforts, or make a recurring donation. There are tons of charities to get involved with during the season. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Share the food.

Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays to chow down — so long as you have the means to do so. Give a solid meal to those in need by volunteering to serve food at a soup kitchen or homeless organization. Not only will you be helping some of the most vulnerable people out there get  good meal, it will remind you of just how much you have to be thankful for.

The weather outside can get pretty frightful, and nobody likes to be left in the cold. Keep those less fortunate warm with handmade blankets, hats, and other cozy items. It’s a great way for the crafty to contribute. You can also find places to donate your old coats that are taking up space in your closets that someone else would be thrilled to have.

There are lots of ways to do good this season. Pick one that works for you, your budget — but definitely give anyway you can.
