Just a PSA that these 14 water brands were recalled
Bad news, fans of bottled water. Niagara Bottling announced this week that 14 of their bottled water brands are being voluntarily recalled after an E. coli contamination was found in one of their spring sources.
Although the E. coli contamination was found on June 10, the spring did not tell Niagara quickly enough and as a result the bottles had already been shipped to stores. They won’t be using that spring as a source moving forward.
The recall is, of course, out of an “abundance of caution.” There haven’t been any reported illnesses due to the contamination, and upon testing Niagara didn’t discover any E. coli in their own products. But just to be safe, they are pulling water made in their Hamburg and Allentown, PA, facilities between June 10 and 18 from shelves. Gotta appreciate a brand for acting fast to make sure their customers are safe!
If you want to check your water to make sure it’s OK, all recalled products have a code that starts with either F or A. You can also check codes at Niagara’s website. If you’ve bought one of the potentially contaminated bottles, the best thing to do is to boil the water for at least a full minute before drinking or using it. Or, just use it to water the plants.
