Watch Halsey’s “Romeo & Juliet” style video for her new single “Now Or Never”
After months of teasing on social media, Halsey’s latest single “Now Or Never” just dropped, and it’s got one heck of an emotional and cinematic music video.
The singer has been teasing the song as well as the album it’s taken from, her second full LP hopeless fountain kingdom, for what feels like AGES, and earlier this year spoke to Rolling Stone about how the album was inspired by science fiction and heartbreak.
If working on a follow-up to her debut album Badlands wasn’t enough, Halsey has also spent the last few months protesting, and raising money for Planned Parenthood.

Well, now Halsey has shared the first single and music video from hopeless fountain kingdom, and it’s a slice of moody R&B heaven.
The track, which was produced by Benny Blanco, Cashmere Cat, and Happy Perez, is titled “Now Or Never,” and sees Halsey step away from the alt-pop of her debut album and the hook-y pop of her collaboration with The Chainsmokers, instead opting for something more akin to Rihanna’s “Needed You.”

The singer also shared the graphic and violent video for the song, which follows a Romeo & Juliet theme of star-crossed lovers, and it’s pretty epic.
The clip was co-directed by Halsey herself alongside Sing J Lee, and, as the singer explained, is just the first part of an extended narrative.
“[It] is one part in the center of a long narrative that tells the story of two people in love despite the forces trying to keep them apart,” she said in a statement. “On its own, the song is about two impatient young lovers, but in the context of the hopeless fountain kingdom universe, the stakes are much higher for these two star-crossed lovers.”

Following the video’s release, Halsey took to Twitter to discuss the clip and hopeless fountain kingdom.
And thank you to the beautiful Mexico City for serving as a romantic, visceral and emotional landscape for The Kingdom. Forever in my heart.

In the same way that Badlands had a Colors and a Control, HFK has many sides as well. #NowOrNever is one delicate side of a bigger story. 💛

They won't all be "Roman Holiday"s, and they won't all be "Gasoline"s. There are so many perspectives to tell. I'm excited for this journey.
