WANT/NEED: A pink T-shirt for proud English majors, and more stuff you want to buy

Welcome to Want/Need, a daily roundup of the things our Deputy Editor, Emily Popp, is currently coveting. It might be a pair of pink leather loafers that make her feel like she’s got her s*#t together, or a pool float in the shape of an avocado (because she’s not over the novelty pool float trend). Or maybe it’s as random as, like, dryer sheets. Basically this is all the stuff she’s obsessed with. Poppy’s picks, if you will.

Christina Wolfgram English Major Graphic Tee

HG’s very own Christina Wolfgram has designed a line of extremely rad shirts available on Amazon, and this “English major” tee in millennial pink makes me feel more myself than any T-shirt I’ve ever worn. I’m very proud of my English major status, because I went to a liberal arts college and I actually use my major every single day. This particular shade of pink also happens to be my signature color. All my English major friends are getting one of these babies for the holidays! For all non-English majors, Christina has an offering of other fun slogans (“Crying is cool,” for example) and they come in an array of colors if millennial pink isn’t your thang.

Simplehuman Sensor Mirror Compact

This is one of those things that after I used it I was like, “How have I lived my whole life without this?!” Spending $80 on a travel sized mirror might make your palms sweat, but if you want to invest in a fabulous magnifying mirror, I would highly recommend this one from simplehuman. To call it a “mirror” isn’t really doing it justice. It’s more of a high-tech grooming tool. I love it because the light is so bright (but doesn’t hurt my eyes) and it has a 3x magnifier. I had no idea what was going on my face until I looked at this mirror. It shows every nook and cranny so crisp, clear and up close. It was almost a little alarming the first time I looked in it, but that’s what I want in a magnifying mirror! What I love most about it is that I’ve actually saved money on getting my eyebrows done. The light and magnification help me see every tiny little hair, and so when I tweeze using this mirror my eyebrows look professionally done. They look so much better than when I tweeze looking in my bathroom mirror. So now I get my brows threaded at the salon way less frequently. My mom asked for a lighted magnifying mirror a few years ago for Christmas, and I wish I knew about this one then. I would have definitely bought it for her. But there’s always this Christmas!

Paul & Joe Limited Edition Makeup Advent Calendar

One of my favorite memories of the holidays as a kid was getting to open the advent calendar in December. My brother and I would take turns, and sometimes there was a little ornament inside or a plastic toy or chocolate candy. That’s why I love this fabulous advent calendar from Paul & Joe. The darling cat illustrations delight my inner kid, but the goodies inside speak to my adult self. Instead of toys, the calendar is filled with my version of toys: 12 limited edition beauty products from Paul & Joe. This advent calendar has everything I could possibly want: nostalgia for holiday tradition, cats and lipstick.

Shop it Wine

Now that it’s almost December, I’ve taken a break from my typical rosé sipping and I’ve been enjoying the red wine life. I had some friends over the other day and served brie on crostini with fig jam and this cab from MERF. Everyone commented that they loved the wine. It tasted smooth, but still robust, and it had just the right notes of spice. Translation? It was tasty AF.

Follain Hand + Body Soap

If you follow this column, you know that I love liquid hand soap. I know, it’s a very specific and random thing to be into, but what can I say? Everybody has a thing. I’m obsessed with Follain’s hand and body soap, because it’s super multi-purpose. It feels extra luxurious when I wash my hands, but I also use it on my fancy glasses and dishes that I hand wash in the kitchen sink. It’s 100% toxin-free and has this great lavender and lemongrass scent.

Knack Weekend Refresher Gift Set

It sounds cheesy, but I’m a big believer in “it’s better to give than to receive.” And as much as I love curating a personalized care package, sometimes I just don’t have the time. But I also want to send a special somethin’ to a good friend. I recently discovered Knack, which I love because it has hundreds of super personalized gift sets from brands I already love to give (Rifle Paper Co., Patchology, Seattle Chocolates, Stumptown Coffee, and tons more). And you can shop by recipient, interest or occasion. But what I love about this service is the gift sets look like something I would absolutely put together myself—minus the headache of running around and finding all the individual presents. Because let’s be real, creating a highly personalized gift bag of goodies is amazing, but it also takes a ton of time. This is a one-stop-shop, and during the holiday madness I could use some extra time in my day.
