WANT/NEED: A Matilda sweatshirt in honor of the book that shaped my childhood, and more stuff you want to buy

Welcome to Want/Need, a daily roundup of the things our Deputy Editor, Emily Popp, is currently coveting. It might be a pair of pink leather loafers that make her feel like she’s got her s*#t together, or a pool float in the shape of an avocado (because she’s not over the novelty pool float trend). Or maybe it’s as random as, like, dryer sheets. Basically this is all the stuff she’s obsessed with. Poppy’s picks, if you will.

Out of Print Matilda Unisex Sweater

Without a doubt, the #1 book that influenced my childhood was Matilda by Roald Dahl. I re-read it again and again, and even to this day it’s still the book I’ve read the most times in my life. It had a huge impact on me, because it was the first time I learned that adults were flawed people, too. I had always thought adults inherently knew more than kids, but the depiction of the intellectually curious Matilda and her two dolts for parents made me see that the world wasn’t that cut and dry. That’s a big lesson to learn as a kid. So clearly I am obsessed with this Matilda sweatshirt from Out of Print Clothing (in rose pink—my favorite color, no less!). This has to be my favorite collection Out of Print has done to date, and I love everything in it—from the Matilda tote bag to the unisex tee. I would pair this dusty rose sweatshirt with a pair of skinny jeans and curl up with a good book, Matilda-style.

Lazy Oaf x Daria Quinn Fitted Top

Lazy Oaf has a new Daria collection that I am loving, and next to Matilda, Daria is my other favorite fictional bibliophile. It’s hard to choose my favorite thing from the collection, but I think it might be this pink butterfly crop top, a replica of the one Quinn, Dara’s sister, wore. As a kid watching, I always liked Quinn’s ‘90s mall style. I remember trying to find a similar crop top at Limited Too, but failing. Finally I can channel my inner Quinn Morgendorffer.

The Bouqs Mini Succulent Plants

I’m a huge fan of The Bouqs and all their gorgeous floral arrangements, and I love that they’ve recently gotten into plants. My living room mantle could use a little more greenery in the form of some succulents, and I am eyeing this set of four sweet little mini succulents.

Flying Embers Kombucha

I had never tried hard kombucha before, but I’m a big kombucha fan and I enjoy an adult beverage on occasion, so I figured a boozy kombucha was definitely something I could get right into. I decided to give Flying Embers a try, a line of alcoholic kombucha drinks that are 100% organic and botanically brewed. They come in three flavors: Ginger & Oak, Lemon Orchard and Ancient Berry. My favorite was definitely the Lemon Orchard, which was delicious and refreshing. It didn’t taste overly boozy at all, but it definitely does have an alcohol content, as I did feel a slight buzz! I also gave a sample to Dan on our video team, who is a mixologist and happens to be very into hard kombucha. He has a very refined palette, and he gave it a big ‘ole stamp of approval, too. We’re both big fans.

PYT Beauty Heart Beat Cheek Color

I was recently introduced to the new clean beauty brand, PYT Beauty, and tested out their “Heart Beat” blush. When it comes to blush, I typically prefer a stick/cream applicator, so I was very pleasantly surprised to find that I love this powder compact. It’s just that perfect natural shade that gives my cheeks a bright flush and breathes life into my face.
