Vogue’s first 100-year-old model doesn’t “dress up for boys”
When we turn 100 years old, we know exactly who we want to be like: Bo Gilbert. There’s no question about it. Though Harvey Nichols reveals that the average fashion model is between the ages 16 and 25, that didn’t stop Bo Gilbert from gracing the pages of British Vogue as the publication’s very first centenarian model.
For the highly anticipated centenary issue – which will be released on May 5th – British Vogue decided to celebrate with Bo, a woman who understands a thing or two about being 100 years old. British department store chain Harvey Nichols and photographer Phil Poynter are the powerhouses behind the shoot, which spared no expense when it came to making Gilbert feel like a queen in Valentino glasses, a Victoria Beckham top, The Row pants, a Dries Van Noten coat, and a Lanvin necklace.
In the behind-the-scenes video for this momentous shoot, Bo explains, “I do things that I think a lot of people wouldn’t do at my age.” She adds that she’s always enjoyed the art of fashion, dressing up even when she didn’t have anywhere fancy to go.
The best part: “I dress to suit myself,” asserts Bo. “I certainly don’t dress up for boys.”
Though Kate Middleton is on the issue’s cover – which marks her very first magazine photoshoot – it looks like she has some stiff competition when it comes to the award for #1 model. Bo herself even gushed over her stunning campaign photo, exclaiming, “Ahhhh! It’s astonishing! It’s pretty, isn’t it?”
We couldn’t agree more, Bo.
