These viral screenshots remind people that domestic abuse can come in many forms

If you’re especially sensitive to the subject of domestic abuse, please be warned that this story could have some triggers. It’s an important subject to understand an educate on. And this particular woman’s story shows the subtleties in a relationship which can lead to more dangerous problems.

An Imgur post of text messages from a user’s abusive ex-husband has gone viral. The user, who has been asked to be identified as KrissyKross, posted them three years after her ex’s domestic violence convictions. She did so because the relationship still weighs on her mind. Needless to say the screen grabs are horrifying, and a textbook example of abuse. They display extreme jealousy, insults, mentions of physical abuse, and controlling behavior.

Please be warned, they’re disturbing.

My domestic violence tale, yadda, yadda, yadda.

During their marriage, KrissyKross said that her husband Adam physically, sexually, and emotionally abused her. She eventually left him when he hurt her kitten and dog. KrissyKross says he was charged with “a handful of misdemeanors” and two felonies.

But KrissyKross is a much better place now.

She told The Huffington Post, "I have my own place, a decent job, my pets are doing very well. My credit is shit from the divorce but really, I’m in decent company in that. This isn’t really a sob story; I’m really proud of what I’ve done on my own.

KrissyKross also has a message for people who are currently in similar situations.

She said, "I think that women and men who manage to escape these situations should find someone they can talk to. Don’t be ashamed. Getting through the court dates and trying to pay bills alone on minimum wage is hard enough, but I found that my real struggle was learning to undo all the mental and emotional damage that had been done."

Thank you so much to KrissyKross for sharing these heartbreaking text messages. It really shows how pervasive and overwhelming domestic abuse is. We applaud her bravery, and hope that her message will reach other people who are currently in similar situations.
