Hell yes: Viola Davis just got her star on the Walk of Fame
Just in time for awards season, Viola Davis got her Walk of Fame star — and we couldn’t be more excited for her. The How to Get Away with Murder and Fences star constantly wows us both on TV and in film. Frankly, we’re surprised it took this long for her to get a star. But the most awesome things come to those who wait. Because not only did Viola have her family with her to celebrate, but Meryl Streep presented her with the star.
Viola Davis looked fabulously giddy as she accepted her star on the Walk of Fame.
We don’t blame Viola for being excited, because this is a HUGE deal. Viola’s career spans two decades in film and TV. She stars in a wide range of awesome projects like Doubt and The Help. In 2015, she won an Emmy for her work in How to Get Away with Murder, and this year, she’s nominated for a number of other awards for her performance in Fences. Viola cites Cicely Tyson and Meryl Streep as two of her idols, so she couldn’t believe that Meryl was there to give her the star.
With a chuckle, Viola described her feelings about Meryl's presence, "That wasn’t part of the dream. I feel like this is the best vision board coming to fruition.
Viola’s husband Julius Tennon and their daughter Genesis joined her in the celebration:
Genesis looked particularly proud of her incredible mother:
Many peoples’ reactions (including ours) to Viola’s star sounded something like, “finally!” or “about time!” But Viola graciously dismisses the idea that her career only just started. She worked hard to get where she is, and she’s proud of where it’s gotten her.
She said, “The only reason why I can speak to you about my career right now is because I’ve had a 30-year career of doing pilots that haven’t been picked up, doing guest star roles, doing theater Off Broadway and Broadway — and then that finally led me to Doubt to The Help to Fences and to How to Get Away With Murder. [...] But I don’t feel like that’s a tragedy. I feel like I’ve always lived my dream as an actor.
Viola’s career is living proof of how far hard work, and let’s face it, incredible talent, can get you. We are SO glad to see Viola getting the honors she deserves. And we hope this isn’t the only reason she has to celebrate this awards season.
