Viola Davis is feeling better after that awkward injury during a sex scene

On How To Get Away With Murder, Viola Davis has intense battles both in and outside the courtroom. Things get dangerous, so we’re not surprised that one time she was injured on set. However, it wasn’t from any of the tense moments or action sequences. It was from a sex scene—and it was anything but sexy.

Davis told SiriusXM about the injury last month, but luckily by the time she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, she had totally healed, and was ready to joke about it.

“Well, we really went for it,” she explained, referring to a steamy scene with her and co-star Billy’s characters. “I said, ‘Listen, I’m always playing these maids, I always gotta gain 40 pounds for a role.’ I said, ‘I want to be sexy.’”

She was encouraged by the cast and crew, who, during the scene, kept encouraging them to really go at it. “So I went for it,” she continued. “And threw my back out.”

As far as on-set injuries go, that one’s not too bad because it comes with such a great story. We’re glad she’s feeling better, though, because that means she can tell us all the juicy details about how this season is going to end . . . right?
