Today in sweet sobs: Vin Diesel named his baby girl after Paul Walker

Get ready for your morning cry: Vin Diesel and his partner Paloma Jimenez named their baby after Paul Walker, as a tribute to Diesel’s close friend and frequent co-star who passed away in 2013.

Diesel announced the latest addition to his family on Monday to Today host Natalie Morales. He also shared his new daughter’s name. Diesel and Jimenez chose the name Pauline as a way of honoring Walker’s life and legacy.

Diesel told Today, “It felt like, you know, a way to keep his memory a part of my family and a part of my world.”

Diesel, who starred with Walker in the Fast & Furious franchise, opened up about his devastation after Walker’s fatal car crash. At the time of Walker’s death, he wrote a tribute on his Facebook page.

“I wish you could see the world right now…and the profound impact your full life has had on it, on us . . .on me,” he wrote. “I will always love you. . . as the brother you were. . .on and off screen.”

This morning, Diesel reflected on Walker’s constant presence in his life, and how he felt him in the delivery room when Pauline arrived in the world.

“He was in the room,” Diesel told Today. “There’s no other person that I was thinking about as I was cutting this umbilical cord. I just. . .knew he was there.”
