This video of movie stars we’ve lost in 2016 is beautiful perfection
So, we all know by now that we’ve lost a bunch of VIP’s this past year. Even though we’re hoping that 2017 is less terrible, we still love all attempts to showcase these celebrities — they’ve all meant a lot to us.
Filmmaker Nelson Carvajal put together a video of movie stars we lost in 2016, and it’s such a gorgeous tribute, that we’re tearing up a bit just thinking about it.
Carvajal, an independent digital filmmaker, works mostly with digital shorts — so really, such a tribute was probably just second nature to him.
Not only does it highlight a few movie star deaths that we’re still reeling over (ahem, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds) but it’s a reminder that so many notorious actors passed away right at the start of this year.
Set to “City of Stars,” by Ryan Gosling and Justin Hurwitz, the La La Land tune adds such an incredible tone to the piece.
While the video itself doesn’t openly identify each actor and actress by name (which is a pretty refreshing change of pace, making it a bit more artistic and less like a montage for an awards show) stars like David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Vanity, Anton Yelchin, Garry Shandling, Doris Roberts, and Prince are featured. (While Prince and Bowie probably figured themselves to be more musicians than actors, we simply can’t forget about Labyrinth and Purple Rain.)
If you’re still looking for a bit of closure on last year, this beautifully touching video might just be the ticket.
