Victoria Beckham says the Spice Girls aren’t going on tour, and tell me, will this deja vu never end?
We live in an age of reunions. Full House can become Fuller House. That’s So Raven can evolve into Raven’s Home. Boy Meets World can switch to Girl Meets World. But alas, not all of our beloved ’90s favorites can return. Some things just won’t ever be the same as they were in their heyday. Case in point: the Spice Girls.
The U.K. pop group that gave us such hits as “Wannabe” and “Viva Forever” recently got together and posed for an epic photo on Instagram. At this cultural moment, a #reunited Instagram post practically implies some sort of reboot. So it’s no surprise that rumors of a potential reunion tour started spreading.
But sadly, our hopes have been dashed and divided. We’ve now heard from an official Spice Girls source, aka Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, that there will be no reunion tour — at least not right now.
“It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely,” Beckham told Vogue during New York Fashion Week. “I still speak to them all individually, but for us all to get together was really lovely.”
However, she didn’t exactly rule out future Spice Girls get-togethers.
In fact, she stressed the message of the Spice Girls and how important it could be in the future. Yup, that means Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Beckham could rise again. Maybe they’d even be stronger than ever. (Not that they ever left.)
"What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming," Beckham continued. "I think there’s so much that the brand can do, and it’s such a positive message for young kids. What does that look like in the future?"
But Victoria Beckham also stressed that she’s committed to her fashion collection right now.
So, what does that future look like for the Spice Girls? That glorious moment when we’ll get to see Sporty, Posh, Baby, Ginger, and Scary on stage? Well, Beckham added it won’t involve her donning a catsuit. But we can dream!
"There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for."
Our fingers will ALWAYS be crossed for a Spice Girls reunion. If it’s a world tour, awesome. But even if it’s just another Instagram pic, we’ll take it!
