Vanessa Hudgens linked up with this “Ned’s Declassified” star, and our inner tween is squealing
We love ride-or-die Hollywood friendships, especially when they survive the leap from childhood/teenagehood to adulthood. One of these we didn’t really know about until just now but nonetheless are squeeing over? Fellow aughts Nickelodeon/Disney stars Vanessa Hudgens and Devon Werkheiser.
If you don’t recognize the latter’s name, he played the lead on the sitcom Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, which ran for three seasons from 2003 to 2007. Vanessa, of course, made appearances on The Brothers Garcia and Drake & Josh before hitting it big with Disney’s High School Musical. So the twosome likely had tons of opportunities to become tight.
Tight enough, in fact, that a Vanessa Hudgens/Devon Werkheiser friendship is enough to carry them to support each others’ projects more than a decade later.
Need proof? Here’s Vanessa recently attending Devon’s play — aptly titled Elevator The Play, in which the actor portrays a musician who gets stuck in an elevator with six others.
"Had such an amazing night supporting my ol friend @devonwerkharder in @elevatortheplay ❤️🙌🏼so good" Vanessa captioned the cute vid. "Love having a Los Angeles theatre scene 😝😉."
And here are some pics of them goofing off with a group (including fellow Nickelodeon alum Austin Butler!), because you can take the kid out of Nick but can’t take Nick out of the kid.
From the looks of Devon’s Instagram account, it looks like the new role is right up his alley because he’s an amazing guitarist and singer, you guys.
Devon still acts on TV — since Ned’s Declassified, he’s shown up in shows like 2 Broke Girls, Franklin & Bash, and Criminal Minds — but he seems to have a super huge interest in and appreciation for the theater now.
"I have been an actor for almost two decades, and I can say with all honesty this play is some of the most fun and fulfilling work I've ever done," he captioned an April Instagram post about his new play.
We’re so happy to hear Devon is thriving in his career, and that he and Vanessa still keep in touch and support each other. Maybe a huge 2000s Nick and Disney kid reunion is in our future?
