Our collective dream vacation destinations, according to Pinterest

Having trouble deciding where to go on your next vacation? Travel mag top-10 lists just not doing it for you? Never fear — the social media hive mind is here to help make up your puny mortal mind for you!

Pinterest has just released the top 20 “most-pinned” destinations in the world. It’s not just for your planning benefit — the list coincides with the social network’s rollout of a new feature that aims to make pins more informative and useful by automatically adding data like directions, phone numbers and customer-written reviews to Pinterest’s roughly 7 billion travel-themed pins. If one of these places isn’t on your “travel” board yet, it’s probably time to get pinning!

4. Havasu Falls, Grand Canyon, Arizona, U.S.A.

Though it could probably use a bit more geographic diversity (really, only two places in Asia?), the most popular dream vacation sites are a surprisingly balanced blend of cities and the great outdoors. LA and Milford Sound have just about nothing in common, except for their vicinity to mountains and the Pacific Ocean, while Hanoi and Havasu Falls are only close when it comes to alphabetical order — yet all of them are popular enough to be pinned to hundreds of thousands of travel boards. Unlike those “what’s your perfect destination?” quizzes, Pinterest actually seems to reflect our diverse travel styles and preferences, from private islands in the Bahamas to terrifying but incredibly photogenic Norwegian boulders.

Incidentally, earlier this year, Pinterest compiled a list of the top 10 most popular travel destinations pinned by users in the U.K. In contrast to the new top 20 list, the British ranking didn’t feature a single place in the U.S., with the top spots going to Argentina, French Polynesia and the Greek island of Milos.

Now that we’ve got a travel bucket list for the next couple of years, it’s time for the real challenge: Finding a few weeks (or months) off to actually get out and explore all of these stunning places in real life!
