Those ‘Once Upon A Time/Frozen’ Spoilers We’ve Been Waiting For
Disney KNOWS you love Frozen, you guys. It knows that “Let It Go” is your current go-to karaoke song. Disney appreciates that “Am I an Elsa or an Anna?” has replaced the age-old “Which Sex and the City character are you?” question (P.S. The answer is you are Olaf BECAUSE WE ARE ALL OLAF, OLAF IS EVERYONE). And Disney does have a sequel of sorts in the works, coming in Spring 2015, but if you’re looking to get your Frozen fix a little sooner than that, you are in luck. A live-action version of Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff are coming to ABC’s every-fairy-tale-character-that-ever-was-all-hanging-out-together-at-the-same-time television series Once Upon A Time.
The series has teased the upcoming Frozen plot for a while now, but on Monday, showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, finally gave us a little more info on how Anna and Elsa’s story is going to play out on the show (which returns Sunday, September 28th, btw). In an interview with Variety, they spilled some serious beans. Here’s what we learned:
The Frozen Characters Are SUPER Integral To This Upcoming Season
“The first half of this season will be Frozen,” Kitsis explains, “and that will be the arc.”
The Dudes Are Bringing The Frozen Characters Into Once Upon A Time W/O Messing With The Frozen Universe
Horowitz breaks it down for us: “We sort of like to think of Once Upon a Time as a Disney cul de sac, where you can come in, you can play with these characters, you can see them in new fun ways, and then when you’re done, you can leave and go back and they’re right where they were.”
Elsa Is Maybe-Probably Going To Be Besties With Snow White’s Daughter Emma
Kitsis explains that when the Once team saw Frozen, they “. . . looked up at that screen and said ‘Oh, that’s Emma’s bestie.” He went on to explain that the two characters “have so much in common and we just loved it, and so we really wanted to explore that because these are two people who really feel alienated, who aren’t sure about themselves, and who have dealt with a lot of pain growing up, and are still coming into who they are as people. That’s what we really loved about it, and we were inspired to say, ‘what happens when Emma and Elsa have a heart-to-heart?’”
Horowitz added that “Elsa has been down many of the same paths that Emma has either been down or is going down, and because of that, they’re going to find a way to bond and a way to work together.”
And Kitsis leapfrogged off of that and explained that “. . .in the movie Frozen, we saw Anna help Elsa come to a realization and give her some advice, and I think what’s fun about Frozen and our arc this year is, you’re going to see Elsa doing that for Emma.”
Ok Once Upon A Time, I’m sold.Let’s hang on Sunday.
