Folks, we might officially have the least popular fan theory of all time
With the release of The Force Awakens just a short 43 days away, fan theories about the movie (and its plot and brand-new characters) are running rampant all over the Internet. The actual plot of the movie is still very much under wraps, which means that right now ANYTHING could happen. In what is currently a very hotly-debated and discussed fan theory, Reddit user Lumpawarroo has their own theory about Force Awakens: Jar Jar Binks is actually way more powerful than we all think, and he’s going to play a huge role in the new movie.
On a scale of one to ten, how much do you like Jar Jar Binks? It’s OK to say your opinion of him is like… a two. In the interest of full disclosure, when Phantom Menace came out in 1999, I was 11 and I thought he was THE COOLEST! When I turned 12, I suddenly no longer thought he was the coolest. I’m going to assume that lots of other kids out there had that same kind of awakening.
For those who have tried very hard to forget Jar Jar, remember he’s the Gungan who Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn meet when they land on Naboo. Jar Jar then joins them on their journey to meet Queen Amidala, and then to Tatooine where they find a young Anakin Skywalker. He was the bumbling comic relief sidekick. And HE’S the one who initiated the the motion to give Chancellor Palpatine control of the Galactic Senate, which then led to the downfall of basically everything, so there are a few really good reasons to dislike this Gungan.
Anyway. Lumpawarroo suggests that this was Jar Jar’s plan all along. According to the Redditor, Jar Jar is “a highly skilled force user in terms of martial ability and mind control,” and “he and Palpatine were likely in collaboration from the very beginning, and it’s entirely possible that Palpatine was a subordinate underling to Binks throughout both trilogies.”
Let that thought sink in for a minute. Lumpawarroo is suggesting that Palpatine — future Emperor Palpatine — was not pulling the strings, but rather Jar Jar was. The two are frequently seen together during Episode II and III. And let’s not forget that Jar Jar is “the same character who can’t walk five yards without stepping in poodoo or squealing like a rabid donkey… [so] why is he still at the right hand of the most powerful person in the galaxy? Could it be that in fact Jar Jar is the most powerful person in the galaxy?”
Going off of this idea, Lumpawarroo suggests that Jar Jar is coming back for Force Awakens. And not just for a quick scene, but rather as the brand new Big Bad of the series, Supreme Leader Snoke (who is brand new, completely unknown character, and played by Andy Serkis).
Lumpawarroo has compiled quite a bit of evidence supporting this, and if you think really long and hard about it, yeah, it kinda makes sense. But it is also completely crazy at the same time. Jar Jar Binks, a Sith Lord member of the First Order? Head over to Reddit to read the whole thing, and decide for yourself it it is worth supporting, or if we need to vote “no confidence” on this.
