This underwater winery in Croatia is peak #VacationGoals

Vino lovers have been known to go to extreme lengths to get their hands on a glass — or maybe that’s just us. Either way, we’re sure this underwater winery in Croatia won’t be short on customers who are willing to take a deep-sea dive in exchange for the opportunity to sample some fine wine. As Condé Nast Traveler reports, the country’s first underwater winery opened to visitors last month, and as far as we’re concerned, a trip to Edivo Vina sounds like next level #vacationgoals.

Before making their way to a bottle of vino beneath the ocean’s surface, visitors to the underwater winery are required to don a pair of goggles and a wet suit and swim past a sunken ship before sampling the goods.

Edivo Vina sits an hour north of popular tourist destination Dubrovnik in the town of Drače, and allows guests to experience precisely why Croatia is known as one of the most wine-guzzling countries on the planet.

Although the wine is stored underwater for two years in clay pots called Amphorae, it undergoes an above-ground aging process that lasts three months. The constant warm temperatures at which the wine is stored is intended to give it a distinct taste and scent that Lonely Planet describes as a “pinewood aroma.”

Additionally, winery owners Ivo and Anto Šegović and Edi Bajurin assure potential sippers that the unique storage method doesn’t negatively impact their wine’s quality, aroma or color.

How exciting! If we had to compile a wine-themed bucket list, Edivo Vina would certainly make the cut.
