Umm, Billy Zane doesn’t think Rose should’ve chosen Jack in “Titanic”

So, in case you don’t remember, because Titanic was made in 1997 and that’s almost 20 years ago (I KNOW), Billy Zane played Caledon (Cal) Hockley in the film, and he was the villian to Jack’s hero. Cal and Rose were engaged, but it was an arrangement to solve her family’s money problems — she was not in love with him, though he was trying to woo her with money and material things. Jack was the antithesis of Cal; all he had to offer was charm and wit. And, y’know, true love.

Well, as the story goes, Rose chose love, despite what everyone wanted and what would’ve essentially been best for her family, and she loves Jack still to this day. The thing is, that’s not what Billy Zane thinks Rose should have done.

He told Us Weekly in a live Facebook chat that he stands by his character, and thinks Jack was a bad choice for Rose, even to this day. When asked if people ever get mad at him for treating Jack the way he did, he answered, “Women, the world is divided into two kinds. When they were younger they were like, ‘How can you do that to Jack?’ And when they grow up they say, ‘What was Rose thinking?’” He seems to agree with that sentiment, even though Rose seemed quite enamored with Leo…er, Jack.

Oh, Billy Zane. Some things, you can apparently, well… never let go of.
