UM, there are secret lip gloss tubs hidden in most of your drugstore lipsticks so life just got so much better

Being a beauty addict is expensive; trust us, we know. Luckily, there are multiple drugstore lipsticks that allow us to keep up with our makeup addiction while saving some dough in the process. If the cost savings provided by drugstore lipsticks isn’t enough for you, you’ll be happy to learn that most lipsticks have a secret lip gloss attached to them. And it’s totally safe to use.

Yes, you read that correctly. There are hidden lip gloss tubs in many of our favorite drugstore lippies. This realization was originally discovered by a Twitter user after she and a friend were playing around with an old tube of E.L.F. lipsticks.

MIND. BLOWN. According to a video created by Revelist, popular drugstore brand Sonia Kashuk also houses this secret lip gloss tub at the bottom of their lipsticks! And according to the ‘Kittten Queen’ herself, there may be other drugstore brands that offer this added value!

Allure dug into this cool discovery further and spoke with the global artistic director for E.L.F. to learn more. According to Achelle Richards, the hidden tub at the bottom of their lipsticks is actually not lip gloss at all — it is the same exact formula as the lipsticks themselves. So you get a bit more of your extra lip color if you just pop off the bottom. It’s an incredibly helpful trick to pull off in a pinch, especially if  you’re running low and need a touch up on the fly.

Apparently this phenomenon was actually started by the need to offer a color-match to customers. The tub offers a preview of what the color applies like, which is helpful when picking lipstick. However, it’s super cool that it serves an added purpose and doesn’t just go to waste. It’s not on every lipstick, but it’s always worth a shot to try and see if you can detach the bottom in an emergency. But anytime there’s more of our favorite lip color to take advantage of, that’s also safe to put on your lips, we’re all about it.
