Two friends traveled 7,500 miles for the ultimate fangirl photo project

What do you fangirl over? Harry Potter? The Avengers? Walking Dead? Game of Thrones? Well, Finnish fangirls Tiia Öhman and Satu Walden swoon over all of those things and more. . . perhaps even more than you and I do. Not convinced? Well, listen to this: they’ve embarked on the ultimate fangirling road trip to visit every filming location from their fave movies and TV shows all over the world. TAKE US WITH YOU, PLEASE.

Since 2013, Tiia and Satu have been trekking the globe with their iPads, holding up photographs of iconic scenes from films with the real scene in the background, then sharing their experience on their blog, Fangirl Quest. “The idea of visiting filming locations and comparing them to what was seen on film is certainly nothing new,” Tiia and Satu wrote on the blog. “But we hadn’t seen it done with tablets and phones before, so we thought we’d give it a go. Like giving it a little modern kick.”

The girls traveled over 2,000 miles all over the UK in the summer of 2013. When they returned, Tiia had over 5,000 photos, some of which were frame shots from filming locations. When she posted them online, they got shared over 60,000 times.

“Since then, we’ve crowdfunded a 7,500 mile roadtrip across North America (starting from Vancouver, Canada and ending in New York) and done a dozen smaller trips in the UK,” Tiia and Satu write. “. . . And we’re not just posting the sceneframe photos alone anymore. Our aim is to always include beautiful photography and stories from these locations, so that other fans can see what it was really like and maybe even go for a visit themselves.”

As Tiia and Satu point out on their blog, fangirling in combination with a love for travel is pretty darn amazing. “Visiting filming locations is the perfect way to see places you wouldn’t necessarily find in ordinary travel guides,” Tiia and Satu write. “Sure, Barafundle Bay is pretty well known by all the locals, but would you visit a beach in the middle of nowhere if you weren’t there because of a film called Third Star?”

They’re currently finished with their latest venture, but we have no doubt that these ladies will be doing quite a bit more traveling in the future. In the meantime, you can check out their archives and see all of the amazing places they’ve been (and scenes they’ve covered). For example, here are the ladies of Downton Abbey:

Here’s Loki lookin’ badass:

Can’t forget about The Walking Dead!:

And, of course, ALL of the sadness from Sherlock:
