Uh, what’s going on with this new official Destiny’s Child Instagram?!
Even though Destiny’s Child as a formal musical group releasing music together is almost definitely a thing of the past, we still cherish those moments when Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams come together.
And now, a new official Destiny’s Child profile popped up on Instagram a week ago. What does it mean???
Alas, this isn’t the case where an Instagram page is created to tease a new iteration of a project. In fact, it’s all devoted to throwback landmarks like the anniversary of RIAA records and the launch of “Soldier.” The page itself is run by Legacy Records, versus any of the labels that the women themselves are on now.
Which doesn’t mean that we aren’t still loving the hell out of these photos. Those outfits! Those poses! Those familiar and iconic faces!
It’s amazing how much has changed about the music industry since the Destiny days, and we wonder how a group like them would both be received now and adapt their ideology to these more turbulent times. Destiny’s Child was a beacon during a time where few such superstars existed at that stature. Now, the overall rise of celebrity culture makes it both easier to reach that level of fame, and harder to maintain it.
That said, we’re pretty sure if Destiny’s Child came back for real, it would be a momentous thing. But alas, this Instagram seems like just another ’00s throwback, or perhaps the groundwork for a new box set of their albums. At this point, we’ll take what we can get.
