Ugh: This Christian haunted house was going to poke fun at the Pulse nightclub shooting, and we’re so disgusted
Sometimes it feels like the planet just keeps getting more and more evil, and this time we’re seriously shaking our heads. So here’s what happened: a Chicago school canceled a haunted house depicting the Pulse shooting. Naturally, the first thought in our heads is like, WHY was this ever going to happen? Yep, that’s right. The “Christian” haunted house depicting the Pulse shooting was supposed to be scary, but nothing about that is just, like, normal level scary. It’s straight up messed up.
According to the description, the purpose of the event was to portray a “dark reality.” It reads,
“Guests will experience IN YOUR FACE scenes of dark reality. You will walk in 10 Rooms and encounter individuals who will make choices. The choice is life or death; sin or salvation; heaven or hell. The scenes will be action-packed, real and jaw dropping.
Which, like, fine. Scary houses are all scary. It’s the point. But pulling from tragedies that happened in real life, especially ones that specifically impacted marginalized groups, just feels so wrong.
According to LGBTQ Nation, people became aware of the event’s intention to portray the Pulse shooting upon seeing a casting call on Facebook. The post read,
“Club Pulse, Dancers, Victims … CAGED PEOPLE/SCREAMERS, Extras needed trying to escape a cage! … SOUNDS INTERESTING? COME OUT THIS SATURDAY!!!
Interesting? That’s one way to put it. Ugh, you guys. This just totally icks us out in the *worst* way. Luckily, the school system has since backed away from the event. The Chicago Public School System told the Windy City Times,
“The event organizers mischaracterized the true content of the event, and we did not approve any association with the activities the organizers have now advertised. The event will not be held on CPS property.
We just can’t believe this almost happened to begin with.
