FYI: There are some super-specific work outfits now banned in Australia
Hate to break this to you, but from now on, if you work at Australia’s Immigration Department you can’t wear a onesie to work. You also can’t wear your Ugg boots to work. Which means, you most certainly cannot wear your onesie AND your Ugg boots simultaneously, as that ensemble would likely break about a million rules and probably have you sent home for the day. I know this is rough to hear, but we’ll get through it together.
While this might seem like a very specific wardrobe policy, it is a very real policy that just went into effect at Australia’s Immigration Department. This brand new no-onesie dress-code is now officially in place and onesies and Uggs are out. So are jeans, t-shirts, and flip-flops. Honestly all these things make sense, but real talk: For this rule to happen, that means that a lot of employes were wearing onsies to work, and now I desperately need to see the inside of this office.
This new new dress-code was taken to Department Secretary Mike Pezzullo, who told ABC News that he, “didn’t even know what a onesie was, and was shown pictures of such garb.” He said he was being asked to rule on, “the wearing of the onesies.”
It was explained to him that a onesie is a one-piece pajama suit, and he consequently ruled that it was not appropriate for the office. Still doesn’t answer how many employees were rocking a onesie on a daily basis. I’m imagining the Immigration Department as just cubicles and cubicles of the comfiest workers in the world. Well, not anymore.
