Polyana Viana, a female UFC fighter, took down a man who tried to rob her on the street
It’s 2019, and there’s no longer any denying that the world is full of women who are strong AF—both physically and emotionally. Case in point: UFC fighter Polyana Viana just took down a man who attempted to rob her on the street. According to MMAjunkie, on the night of January 5th, Viana was waiting for an Uber outside her Rio de Janeiro apartment when a man approached her and asked for the time. She told him, at which point he ordered her to give over her phone. Viana told the site that the man claimed to be armed, but his gun seemed “too soft” to be a real weapon.
"He was really close to me. So I thought, 'If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it,'" she told the website. "So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke."
Once she caught the would-be mugger, Viana asked passersby to call the police. As they waited for law enforcement, she kept the man’s arms restrained. Later, at the police station, she filed a report and learned that the man’s “gun” had been nothing more than a cardboard cutout. Police also told Viana that the man had been previously arrested and released.
On Instagram, UFC President Dana White shared a picture of Viana alongside a photo of her attempted attacker. (Warning: The image below is graphic.)
"On the left is @polyanaviana, one of our @UFC fighters and on the right is the guy who tried to rob her ," White wrote. "#badfuckingidea."
BBC Sport notes that the 26-year-old fighter has a 10-2 MMA record. Clearly, this guy chose the wrong woman to mess with.
