Uber has just been banned from this country, and here’s why
It may feel like you can go just about anywhere in the world these days and order an Uber. That’s no longer the reality in Italy, though, where they’ve just banned Uber indefinitely, due to a recent court ruling. There has been so much unfair competition with local taxis that Italy has decided to bar Uber from conducting business in their country anymore. This all came after taxi unions filed a complaint to a court in Rome about all the revenue they’re losing.
It’s reported that Uber must remove all their services from the entire country in the next 10 days, as well as any advertising for Uber, such as billboards or ads. If they don’t comply, they could be fined up to $10,600 for every day they don’t follow these new rules.

There have been some rulings in other European countries that only blocked Uber from simply using services like UberX and UberPop, but this one in Italy has banned all forms of Uber, including UberBLACK, UberLUX, UberX, UberXL and UberSelect.
Uber expressed their surprise in a statement they released after the decision was made.
"We are shocked by the Italian’s court decision and will appeal," Uber said. "Thousands of professional, licensed drivers use the Uber app to make money and provide reliable transportation at the push of a button for Italians."
They will have the chance to appeal, but until then they still have to remove all their services and advertising from the nation of Italy. This certainly isn’t the first place to ban Uber. Vancouver, Barcelona, and Buenos Aires are some of the major cities who have also turned away Uber services. All we can do is sit tight and see whether an appeal plays out on Italian soil. Stay tuned!
