Tyra Banks opened up about why she finally decided to share a photo of her son

Just awhile back, we got to see Tyra Banks’ adorable son for the very first time. Banks and her partner, Eric Asla, had the boy through a surrogate, but were pretty private over the entire process. In fact, fans of Banks learned that she became a mom just shortly after her son, York, was born in January of 2016.

With every parenting situation, it’s up to mom and dad to decide whether or not to make their child public — even if it’s the child of a celebrity. Banks had done a great job avoiding any photos that revealed York’s face.

That’s why it came as a surprise that she decided to post a photo on Instagram on Father’s Day this year.

As you can tell, her son looks just like her. And it’s an adorable photo, so you’d imagine that was the reason why she bit the bullet and went to share it. But, as it turns out, there are other reasons why Banks chose that day, and that time, to share that photo.

She opened up about the moment on Late Night with Seth Meyers and explained what was really going on behind the scene.

"It wasn't so much that I was itching for the world to see him," Banks clarified. "I went to a restaurant for Father's Day with my son and my dad. It was by the ocean and my son was, 'Awa! Awa! Awa!' Water. And so I was like, 'OK, you're going to get in the water for the first time.'"

Of course, with such a cute moment outside in public, paparazzi eventually found out what was going on. Pretty soon, Banks noticed a bunch of people trying to get a photo of her son having a fun time.

"I'm trying to hide him with a blanket. I pull over the gas station after they get the shot, I text his dad and I'm like, 'I've got to put this picture out before the paparazzi. I don't want them to make money off our child and have the first picture.' So, I posted the damn picture," she said with pride.

We totally get why she wanted to take action. Really, she was just looking out for her son.

While we do hope that Tyra Banks eventually shares a few more snaps of little York as he’s growing up, we know it’s totally her call to make.
