How two women who look exactly alike found each other

See the picture on the right? No, that’s not a girl who has Photoshopped herself to look like she’s hanging out with herself. And no, it’s not her twin sister. In fact, they’re not even related.

These two girls are “twin strangers” who never previously knew each other . . . and they were living only an hour apart.

The girl on the left, 26-year-old Niamh Geaney, made a bet with her two friends, Harry English and Terence Manzanga, to see who could find their doppelganger from anywhere in the world first within one month. Thus birthed their Facebook page, Twin Strangers, calling for anyone in the world to submit photos of anyone they know who thinks they look just like Harry, Niamh, or Terence, pictured below.

One month? Doesn’t sound like much time to find your non-related twinsie, does it? Well, Niamh rocked the bet and was able to find her twin stranger, named Karen Branigan, who also lives in Ireland. The two met up, and things got a little *~*spooky*~*.

“I found Karen through the power of social media and this weekend we met up in real life!,” Niamh wrote on Facebook. “Not going to lie – we were both were pretty freaked about seeing our double in the flesh.”

“For the entire duration of our encounter, I pretty much stared at her,” Niamh told the Daily Mail. “I couldn’t get over her face, and some of the expressions she would pull I would think to myself or say aloud, ‘Oh my God, that’s my face.’ I can’t remember the number of times I said ‘this is so freaky.’ It was truly amazing.”

We were blown away, too—especially when the two decided to give themselves a makeover to look even MORE alike:

Seriously, this is truly amazing:

As of yesterday, the trio who started the Twin Strangers project posted a video on YouTube sharing their thoughts on going viral. In it, they say they’ve been bombarded with photos of potential twin strangers after Niamh’s amazing success. They’re also encouraging other people to submit their own pictures to the Twin Strangers Facebook page, to help others connect with their doppelgängers. Yes, please.

In the meantime, check out the video of Niamh and Karen meeting each other for the first time. Beyond the craziness of two complete strangers who look exactly alike finding each other, the video is also a really sweet testament to how we can connect, and forge bonds with strangers through the power of the Internet. There’s a sisterly nature between the two women that’s especially apparent when they make themselves up to look even more alike. They giggle, they compliment each other, and they seem to genuinely feel a kinship to each other. The world is an amazing place.
