We might get TWO whole seasons of ‘American Horror Story’ next year
We are STOKED for American Horror Story: Hotel to start up in October. Thing is, though, the sooner it starts, the sooner it’ll be over. AHS works off of a limited-season run, so we’re not going to get a standard 22-24 episodes out of this season’s Hotel. Instead, we’ll get 13 episodes. AHS will be over before the end of this year, and then we’ll find ourselves having to wait another TEN MONTHS for it to come back.
But wait, there’s some possibly amazing news: We won’t have to wait that long if Ryan Murphy has anything to say about it.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, AHS ringleader Murphy teased that next year, we could get an AHS comeback in the fall and in the spring. His exact quote is literally just that, “Next year we might do a fall American Horror Story and a spring,” before adding that he and the writers “have to decide.”
If you want us to decide for you, the answer is YES. The way it stands right now, the first episode of this season will premiere on October 7th. Lucky number 13-episodes later, in January of 2016, Hotel will come to a close. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that a few months from then, MORE AHS will be coming our way? It’s clear that Murphy keeps on thinking bigger and BIGGER about the show, so it would make sense for him to start cramming as much story into a year as possible. It sounds like that will mean two different seasons for every 365 days.
As Murphy explains to EW, he is working with two different writers’ rooms, which is completely uncommon. Usually there’s one writers’ room, where all the writers and the showrunner hang out and pitch around story ideas. According to Murphy, for this season, they’re breaking that mold and, “some of [the] writers will be bouncing around but a whole different group [is] coming in late August.” Two writers’ rooms could mean double the storylines, and it’s conceivable that this new group could already be working on stories for the future — and then, of course, figuring out how they relate back to this season, keeping all of AHS linked in one mysterious storyline.
It’s not entirely clear when this dual AHS would start happening. Hotel is already in production, and Murphy has other shows in the works, too, like Scream Queens and American Crime Story. There might be too much already on his plate to start bringing us two AHS seasons next year. But if he’s up to the challenge, we’re ready for it.
