Twitter helped this girl find the stranger she kissed on the Eiffel Tower, and he had a GF
Are you a fan of romantic comedies? While this story doesn’t star Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, it does have a little bit of a Sleepless in Seattle vibe to it. But with some major differences. For one, the magic moment in this tale takes place atop the Eiffel Tower, not the Empire State Building. And it involves Twitter, which of course wasn’t around yet in 1993.
Here’s how it all started. A student named Juliana Corrales found herself touring Paris with her school and her best friends, which sounds like a lot of fun. On the last day of their adventure, they decided to visit the top of the Eiffel Tower. Feeling a little romantic, she made a small promise to herself — she’d find someone to kiss while up there.
Corrales, who unfortunately set her tweets to private after detailing her story, had written that not many good candidates were up there with her — until she spotted him. “The one.” And he was visiting Paris from Texas, a detail that Corrales thankfully remembered.
“I explained to him about my pact, and to my dismay he actually agreed to kiss me,” Corrales wrote. “So we kiss and it was pretty cool and my friends were all cheering and we were all laughing, and then his mom yells, ‘That’s my son, kiss again so I can get a picture.’”
Corrales reportedly stated that the Eiffel Tower kiss was excellent. So excellent that in the heat of the moment, she forgot to exchange any sort of vital contact information with the guy — whom she said was named Gavin. And that’s why she headed to Twitter, to get a little bit of help.

As expected, a lot of people were drawn to the story and wanted to help Corrales out, in what may be the most interesting “missed connection” case we’ve seen in a while. But with only his first name and location to go by, along with the now-deleted photo, it was tough.

The internet delivered, of course. But the end of the story isn’t so cheery.
…It turns out that Gavin might actually have a girlfriend.
According to a play-by-play of the search on Cosmopolitan, Corrales thanked everyone for their hard work in tracking down the mysterious stranger.
"So I saw that u guys found Gavin hahah and whether he has a girlfriend or not, I would just like to thank everyone for finding him and being so supportive," the tweet reportedly read. "If you guys wouldn’t mind please to not bother him or his mom, I would hate to disrupt their lives too much."

While it’s not the news we were hoping for, it’s still so nice to see the internet rally together to support potential Eiffel Tower love — and we know Corrales is going to find someone incredible (and single!) who is her perfect match.
