The “Twin Peaks” revival FINALLY gets its official premiere date

Attention ’90s television fans, we’ve got the biggest news of the day for you: The Twin Peaks revival officially has a premiere date, and it’s coming sooner than we thought.

While we’ve enjoyed reboots galore this past year, from Gilmore Girls to Fuller House, we’ve been patiently awaiting news about the highly-anticipated Twin Peaks revival. And now we’ve gotten word that it will debut Sunday, May 21st. Just in time to kickstart our summer TV binges.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the season will have a two-hour premiere (score!) and will have 17 episodes in total.

At the Television Critics Association winter press tour yesterday, Showtime president David Nevins gave us some juicy info about the reboot, saying, “We’ve seen the whole thing. [Director] David Lynch is one of the great film masters of my lifetime. I think this is the pure heroin version of David Lynch and I’m excited to put it out.”

“The thing about Twin Peaks, and this new version of Twin Peaks, is it rewards close watching. It was an original social media discussion show before the tools of fan engagement really existed. That’s one reason why David is so particular about secrecy. It will really reward close watching and [piecing] things together over time.

Most of the original cast is on board, and we’re thrilled. One thing that may bum fans out, though, is that the reboot is a one-time thing. Nevins confirmed there are no plans for a second season.

There also won’t be a big trailer reveal in the months leading up to the premiere, shrouding the plot of the revival in mystery. This is actually pretty fitting for the cult supernatural series, and we kinda wouldn’t want it any other way.

With much of the original cast plus some exciting new faces, including Monica Belucci, Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, Michael Cera, and Amanda Seyfried joining the crew, we’re very patiently waiting for May 21st. Stay tuned.
