Watch ‘Twin Peaks’ stars ask David Lynch to come back and #SaveTwinPeaks
In October of last year, it was announced that our ’90s TV darling Twin Peaks was coming back into our lives, and we rejoiced, because Twin Peaks is worthy of a thousand more seasons! The new season reportedly has nine episodes which will take place 25 years after the show ended, and they’re to air on Showtime. Except that now the future of Twin Peaks is looking pretty grim, and we’ve been brewing a lot of sad, sad coffee. Two days ago, David Lynch announced on Twitter that he was leaving the “reboot” two days ago due to concerns about the Showtime’s budget. Lynch stated, “After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.”
This doesn’t NECESSARILY mean the show will not go on, (but yes, we’re still concerned). Lynch says that the Twin Peaks revival could still happen and be “very much alive,” and according to Variety, Showtime is still trying to work things out with the show director. “We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points,” a Showtime rep stated. They added, “Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”
We’re all very heartbroken over this, but we still have hope! And so does the cast of Twin Peaks. To convince David Lynch to come back and direct the show (and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show), Twin Peaks regulars like Sheryl Lee, Catherine Coulson, Mädchen Amick, and even Lynch’s daughter (the author of The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer) came together to create the video, “Twin Peaks without David Lynch is like…” The video first appeared on Mädchen Amick’s Facebook account, and then posted to the Official Twin Peaks Cast Facebook page. Together, the video has over 123,000 views in the last 19 hours.
So what is Twin Peaks like without David Lynch? Like a girl without a secret. Like a dog without a bark. Like eyes without brows. Like pies without cherries. Like a sheriff’s station without donuts. For more compelling similes that we’re hoping will sway David Lynch’s heart, watch the video below:
