“Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer is working on a TV show, and it sounds dark AF

She entranced the world with her vampire novels, and now Twilight author Stephenie Meyer is working on a TV show, and it sounds way darker than anything Edward Cullen and Bella Swan could have been involved in.

It was only last year that Meyer returned to the literary world with her book The Chemist, a novel that couldn’t have been further from the supernatural love story that bagged the author legions of fans. In fact, we’re pretty much still invested in Twilight, and we’re not ashamed to say it. Those novels and movies were a major part of our lives, and we ain’t sorry.

That’s why we’re actually pretty excited for Meyer’s upcoming TV show.

If you were disappointed that The Chemist was lacking in supernatural elements, then the author’s latest venture will certainly please you.

According to a report by Vanity Fair, Meyer is working on an adaptation of 2012 novel The Rook by Daniel O’Malley. Starz announced the news during the recent Summer Television Critics Association Press Tour, revealing that the show would air in 2018. And yes, the description of the show  makes it sound like it could be our new obsession.

"The Rook tells the story of a young woman who wakes up in a London park suffering total amnesia – surrounded by dead bodies, all wearing latex gloves," it reads. "Pursued by shadowy paranormal adversaries, grappling with peculiar ‘abilities’ of her own, she must fight to uncover her past, and resume her position at the head of Britain’s most secret (supernatural) service… before the traitors who stole her memory can finish what they started."

Meyer will serve as co-executive producer on the series, with The Night Manager‘s Stephen Garret executive producing.

What makes this show sound so exciting, however, isn’t just the creepy supernatural elements. Speaking about the show, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht also said that it features “one of the most fascinating and thrilling female protagonists on television,” which is something we ALWAYS like to see on our TV screens.

While it’s not airing until 2018, we’re pretty excited to see how The Rook turns out. It’s a strong concept, and with Game of Thrones ending next year, we’re in need of something to become our brand new obsession.
