These TV Moms Basically Raised Us
TV basically raised me. My second family was a blend of the Simpsons, the Bradys and the Tanners. So this Mother’s Day, I’d like to pay tribute to the TV Moms who helped raise us, and who still are because let’s face it, we’re still growing up.
1. Marge Simpson – The Simpsons
Oh, Marge. How does she do it? With Homer and his daily antics, Bart always getting into trouble, trying hard to relate to Lisa, and Maggie has been a baby for like 25 years, all while maintaining that perfect hair? That must get exhausting. So exhausting that she almost lost her hair from stress and had to get a nanny to help out. Ah, Shary Bobbins. If there’s one thing Marge has taught us, it’s how to stay strong when everything around you seems to be falling apart. Also, it’s never too late to follow your dreams, like that time she was cast as Blanche in what is quite possibly is the best production of A Streetcar Named Desire. Streetcar!
2. Joyce Summers – Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Her daughter is a vampire slayer (well she didn’t know this until later) and she’s a single mother?! Joyce (such a great Mom’s name) always seemed to hold her cool and was a great support system for Buffy. She also hit Spike with an axe to defend Buffy. An axe. She was also a mother figure to all of Buffy’s friends.
3. Danny Tanner, Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey – Full House
Okay, so they’re not technically Moms, but they basically were. Be it Danny’s dad jokes and heart to hearts, Uncle Jessie’s hair or Uncle Joey’s impressions, the team did a great job raising the girls, and me too. Moms can really come in all forms, be grateful for whatever mother figure you have.
4. Carol Brady – The Brady Bunch
True that, Carol. Everything always seemed to be well in the Brady household. Carol (another awesome Mom name) really did a great job raising her three kids and then Mike’s kids as her own. So well that you often forgot she was Greg, Peter and Bobby’s step mom. Also – that hair.
5. Lois Wilkerson –Malcolm In The Middle
I never knew that was their last name, thanks Google! There was never any fluff with Lois. Yes she always seemed to be yelling. And sure you could call her a tyrant. But all of that was out of love. I remember watching this with my parents and my mother (also a fan of yelling) would turn to me and say, “and you think I’m bad?” And then I would explain to her how TV works.
6. Kris Jenner- Keeping Up With The Kardashians
I know this pick is a little controversial with her daughter having a sex tape and all, but at the core of it, Kris is a great mother who holds her family together. At least that’s what I’ve gathered from binge watching three seasons of Keeping Up with The Kardashians on Netflix. She’s always there for her many children. As a “momager,” she really supports each of her kids in following their dreams while teaching them good work ethic and reminding them not to take selfies when one of their sisters is going to jail.
Today I am grateful for my mom who is somewhat a mix of all of these moms. She reads all of my posts here and has always been supportive. Thank you, mom for being awesome. And Happy Mother’s Day to your moms, whatever form they come in.
