Trump Tower is on fire, and here’s what we know
This morning, January 8th, the Fire Department of New York City arrived at the scene of a fire on the top floor of Trump Tower in Midtown. Firefighters say they got the call at 7 a.m. local time and arrived to find smoke billowing from the top of the building.
We don’t know many details yet, though some news outlets are reporting that it’s a small electrical fire. According to the New York Daily News’s website, firefighters said it began in the building’s heating and cooling system.
Aerial shots of Trump Tower show firefighters on the roof of the building, though the situation does not appear urgent. Photos from the street show smoke coming from the corner of the roof, as well as firetrucks blocking off the area outside the building.

It already seemed like the fire was losing steam by 8 a.m. local time based on the amount of smoke emanating from the upper story. Shortly afterwards, the NYPD tweeted that it was under control. As of right now, two injuries have been reported. One man was removed from the scene via a stretcher after trying to battle the fire on the rooftop.

Although there has been no word from the president just yet, the Trump Organization released an emailed statement to The Washington Post, saying, “There was a small electrical fire in a cooling tower on the roof of Trump Tower. The FDNY were here within minutes and did an exceptional job. Everything is under control and no evacuations were made.”
In addition to Trump’s private apartment, the building is home to luxury apartments and businesses, and is known as a hub of activity in Midtown Manhattan, so we hope everyone is okay.
