Trump is staying in Los Angeles tonight, and there are going to be major protests
President Donald Trump is apparently currently making his way from the border with Mexico to downtown Los Angeles today, and authorities expect anti-Trump protests along the whole route. Trump is then expected to stay overnight in downtown Los Angeles, and the LAPD is already gearing up for a multitude of demonstrations — though they don’t currently know the scale.
However, the LA Times reports that an “Unwelcome Rally at Santa Monica Airport Park” is already scheduled for 2 p.m. local time. The site also states that, “Perhaps the biggest planned protest is set for the Beverly Hills area between 4 and 8 p.m. Tuesday by a Facebook group, Trump Not Welcome in LA.”

The Times also reported that while it’s unknown where Trump will be staying, the Wilshire Grand in downtown LA, which is the tallest building in the city, sent an email to tenants last week stating that a “high profile guest” would be staying at the hotel this week. Because of this, local authorities will allegedly be paying close attention to the downtown area and have officers at the ready should protests crop up in that part of the city.
However, the LAPD made it clear that while they’ll be there to ensure safety, they are also there to “accommodate any residents who may feel a desire to exercise their 1st Amendment rights.”
Sources indicate that there have already been major road closings in the downtown LA area and that traffic is currently difficult to navigate, so it’s definitely a good idea to check traffic before heading out today.
