Trump said he was going “back to work,” and then golfed six days in a row instead
When most people say they are going to work, it means they are heading into their office. (Or retail store, or restaurant, or wherever they are employed.) And when most people say they are going to work, they do not mean they are going to hit a golf ball around some really pretty grass. But lately, when our current POTUS says “work,” he usually means “golf.” For six days in a row now — since December 26th — Trump has been playing golf instead of working.
To be fair, the president has done a few things lately. Trump unexpectedly fired everyone on his HIV/AIDS council. He also issued a politically incorrect holiday card from the White House. And he spread fake news about climate change on Twitter. Let’s give credit where credit is due.
Here’s the deal: This isn’t about golf. This isn’t about whether or not golf is a sport that is worth spending a great deal of your time playing. (But FWIW, Business Insider reports that Trump has spent more than 25 percent of his days in office at his golf clubs.) What this is about is if the President of the United States says he’s going to work, the President of the United States should actually work. Vacation time is important, but this guy sure seems to take a lot of it.

“Starting to” may be an understatement.
i sincerely don’t care that Trump plays golf. god speed. but the sheer amount he plays does spotlight how insincere Obama’s critics were about his golfing habits. here’s a little sampling of people who’ve gone suddenly quiet on the topic

Sam Stein’s tweet really helps put into words what is so bothersome about Trump’s golfing habit: It is entirely hypocritical. Trump was very concerned with Obama’s golfing habits. And he wasn’t the only one. Stein points out some of the people who criticized Obama’s golfing, highlighting how quiet they all seem to be lately.
The President — any President — deserves some time off during the holidays. But if Trump is going to make a claim, he should stick to it. It’s time to get back to work.
