This telepathic robot hand is the best new way to use Tinder

Maybe you thought you had your Tinder all figured out. You like the cut of their jib? You swipe right. You just can’t see the two of you sending out Christmas cards together for the next fifty to seventy five years. Buh-bye random stranger, it’s a left swipe for you. We’re sure you’re using Tinder just fine, but are you really getting the most out of your swipes? Unless you’re using the True Love Tinder Robot AKA a telepathic mechanical hand to do your picks for you, probably not. For real, this robot basically reads your thoughts… through your sweat. Here’s how it works. As Mental Floss reports, you place your hands on a pad in front of the robot hand/your phone, with Tinder pulled up. You glance at the first photo, and, if your palms get a smidge sweaty, it’s probably because you are feeling that pic, and the robot hand will swipe right. If you’re not digging the photo, your hands are likely to stay dry as the Sahara, your friendly neighborhood robot hand will note this, and promptly swipe left. The bot hand was invented by Nicole He, an artist and coder who had the idea for this Tinder game changer during “Best Idea Time” AKA when she was asleep. As one must when inspiration strikes, Nicole explains on her site that she jolted up and wrote her love robot idea down on her phone.

“In a time when it’s very normal for couples to meet online, we trust that algorithms on dating sites can find us suitable partners,” Nicole explains on her site. “Simultaneously, we use consumer biometric devices to tell us what’s going on with our bodies and what we should do to be healthy and happy. Maybe it’s not a stretch to consider what happens when we combine these things.”

So this telepathic robot hand is basically like a FitBit for Tinder. Kind of, kind of. As Nicole writes,  the True Love Tinder Robot “…explores the idea that the computer knows us better than we know ourselves, and therefore it has better authority on who we should date than we do.”

And really, is it any crazier to let a robot hand help pick our matches than it is to let an algorithm help us find romance? If nothing else, it seems like the True Love Tinder Robot would be all kinds of fun to play, a la the Love Tester of ye olde vintage arcade days.
