“True Detective” Season 3 might be in the works, and it might be starring this handsome Oscar winner

Few actors are having a better year than Mahershala Ali. He became the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar, he became a dad, and he starred in a Calvin Klein ad. Now, according to The Tracking Board, Ali may be starring in Season 3 of True Detective. All we have to say is YES! Right now he’s still in the very early stages of talks, as there has been no official announcement of a third season of the HBO show.

The Tracking Board reports that the deal with Ali hasn’t closed yet, but insiders are “confident that it will.”

Interest in True Detective wasn’t so high during its second season. It aired in 2015 and starred Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Rachel McAdams. Perhaps being able to sign a big star like Mahershala Ali will bring back the interest the show needs to return for another season?

HBO has yet to comment on the fate of True Detective, we do know a few additional details. Should the show come back, series creator Nic Pizzolatto has already written at least two episodes of a third season. He has a new producing partner as well: Emmy Award-winning producer David Milch.

While they have remained mum so far this year, HBO execs have previously stated that the network was interested in a third season of True Detective, but they were waiting for Pizzolatto to come up with a new “take” for the season. After what was considered a lackluster Season Two, it is important for there to be a clear direction before continuing.

If all goes well and they are able to sign Ali, this would be his first starring role on a television show. He has been featured on other shows including House of Cards and Luke Cage. Ali would be in excellent company with the stars of previous seasons of True Detective; Matthew McConaughey starred in the first season, after winning an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club. It seems that getting an actor right after they win an Oscar leads to a more successful season. So Ali would be perfect, no?
