Troian Bellisario’s mom had the most honest reaction to that “Pretty Little Liars” finale twist

All good things must come to an end. This is a truth we hate accepting in life, that is almost harder to accept in television. That’s why it was so difficult to say goodbye to Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, and Sasha Pieterse this week on Pretty Little Liars. The beloved show took its final bow this Tuesday. It’s hard to believe, but it’s been seven years since the series began.

We’ll miss the insane Pretty Little Liars season finales and the show’s strong portrayals of female friendship. It’s the end of an era! Needless to say, the finale delivered with all sorts of great twists and reveals.

Arguably the most dramatic reveal of the series finale was the identity of the mysterious ‘A.D.’ ‘A.D.’ turns out to stand for Alex Drake. Who is Alex Drake? Oh, just Spencer Hastings’ long-lost twin! Not only is she long-lost, she’s also got a killer British accent, and is evil. Because of course.

While we were all gasping, actress Troian Bellisario’s mom had the funniest reaction!

According to an interview with ET, Bellisario was in on the secret for a little while, because she had to play Alex Drake. Even so, it was a twist that not everyone was expecting. Bellisario revealed that her mom was just as shocked as the rest of us. Bellisario laid out the best reaction ever in this quote:

"It was just so much fun to watch the episode with the cast and to dress up. I got to bring my mom and in the first moment that the twin was revealed, it was so funny. She turned around at me and she gasps and goes, 'You bitch!' and Marlene basically fell off her chair laughing. It was so funny! And I was like, 'But, Mom! I'm also the person being held captive!'"

The Marlene that Bellisario is referring to is of course Marlene King, Executive Producer and Showrunner of the series. That’s how you know that it was the best reaction ever! We all just wish we had been there to see it too.

Even though the end of PLL is bittersweet, we are super happy that we got hear about this amazing anecdote from the end of the series. It goes without saying, but we cannot wait to see where all these amazing ladies head next!
