We tried Starbucks’s new Zombie Frappuccino so you don’t have to

Another day, another novelty Starbucks beverage. This time, we’re looking at you, Zombie Frappuccino.

Exactly 10 days ago, the rumor mill ran on whispers of a Halloween treat at your neighborhood coffee conglomerate. “Our Halloween plans are still under [mummy] wraps, but we look forward to sharing more details with the living soon,” a Starbucks rep told Cosmopolitan. And now?

It’s HERE.

Combining apple and caramel flavorings, the green beverage is topped with brain-pink whipped cream and red mocha drizzle. If a zombie were turned into a Starbucks drink by a witch, it would look like this cauldron concoction.

Starbucks development team member Jennica Robinson explained,

“We thought about what you’d serve at a Halloween party, and we settled on dipped caramel apples. It has a tart green apple favor balanced with a smooth, sweet caramel.

So how does this treat taste?

It was not love at first sip. The moment this green liquid touched my tongue, my taste buds were overcome with tartness. It was an immediate “No, thank you,” from me. However, the Zombie Frappuccino is currently beside me and…well, I can’t stop sipping. I am under its spell.

Taste-wise, I do get hints of both caramel and a tart apple, making me feel as though someone put an actual caramel apple in a blender with some ice to create this drink. Would I prefer an actual caramel apple? Yes. Am I still taking breaks to drink the Zombie Frapp? Also yes. (Do not judge me! I just love Halloween, okay?) Plus, I will admit that the mocha-flavored whipped cream brains are a nice touch.

The verdict: Get the Zombie Frappuccino, but only if you dare. And only if you make sure to get it this week — because it is limited-edition.
