We’ve got a new anchor for ‘The Daily Show’ and he’s awesome
Two months ago Jon Stewart announced he would be leaving Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, ending a 16-year run as host of the iconic satirical news show. And although we’re sad (OK, sobbing) to see Stewart leave — we are so pumped to hear that correspondent Trevor Noah will be taking Stewart’s place behind the desk!
If Noah’s name isn’t quite familiar, it may be because the 31-year-old South African comedian only joined the show in December, and has since made only a few appearances. He’s been performing stand-up in the United States for about five years, and caught the eye of Jon Stewart two years ago. He doesn’t have quite the following of Jessica Williams or Samantha Bee, two other correspondents fans had hoped to see helm the show.
But as Michele Ganeless, the president of Comedy Central, told the New York Times, “He brings such a unique worldview and a deep understanding of human nature, which makes his comedy so insightful.”
Noah was pretty psyched about the promotion, as well. “You don’t believe it for the first few hours,” he told the Times, from Dubai where he’s on a comedy tour. “You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”
His first appearance on The Daily Show was in a sketch looking at racial tension in America as compared to South Africa, and his perspective was on point.

Noah got his start in comedy in South Africa, where he quickly developed a huge following. He’s hosted award shows, comedy festivals, and his own late night talk show, Tonight with Trevor Noah. In 2012 he became the first South African comedian to appear on The Tonight Show and later made history again on The Late Show with David Letterman.
Now he’s about to take over one of the most popular shows in the U.S., and although no one can ever replace Jon Stewart, we have faith that Noah will do an amazing job! This morning, he posted this photo on Facebook that made us both misty-eyed and seriously psyched for what The Daily Show future holds.
The caption? “No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!”
No doubt.
