The first full-length trailer for Jay-Z’s upcoming docuseries Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story is here, and it’s chilling

Paramount Network has finally released the first full-length trailer for Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, a six-part documentary about the shooting of Trayvon Martin premiering on July 30th. Produced by Jay-Z, the docuseries chronicles the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in a gated Florida community in February 2012. The unarmed teen was shot and killed by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who was later acquitted on grounds of self-defense.

Following the death of Martin, rallies spread across the country to protest police brutality and racial bias. Demonstrations intensified after Zimmerman’s acquittal in July 2013, with various media outlets documenting several police clashes with protestors. In the trailer, Martin’s mom emotionally says, “It took my son being shot down to make me stand up.”

Rest in Power features interviews from Martin’s parents and activists Angela Davis and Reverend Al Sharpton, among many others. In the trailer, chilling 911 audio and surveillance footage from the night of Martin’s murder is also presented.

Rest in Power isn’t Jay-Z’s first foray into film production. In 2017, the 4:44 rapper produced Time: The Kalief Browder Story on Spike, a docuseries about 16-year-old Kalief Browder’s wrongful conviction that led to three years of imprisonment in Rikers Island jail in New York. Browder died by suicide at 22. The Kalief Browder Story won a Peabody Award in April 2018.

Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story premieres on Paramount Network and BET on July 30th at 10 p.m. local time.
