World traveler finds hilarious ways to check in with his mom

Anyone who’s been a world traveler for any length of time knows that while you’re away, you’ll have to check in with someone back home frequently to let them know you’re okay. Every person’s situation is different, but often, this loved one at home is your mom.

Back in the days before phones (yikes), the only way to do this was to send postcards. As technology has advanced, so have the options — depending on the location, a world traveler can get in touch with loved ones via call, email, and Skype, to name a few.

While most intrepid trekkers use a combination of these methods, one world traveler has zeroed in a particular one, and as a result, become our favorite mom-conscious globetrotter. According to the New Zealand site Stuff, Jonathan Kubben Quiñonez is a 27-year-old from Belgium who tells his mom he’s okay via Instagram. His account is actually called “momimfine,” and his charming posts have gained him about 63 thousand followers and counting.

His description of the page is totally perfect: “Whatever your age is,” Quiñonez writes, “If you have a Latin mom and a passion for adventure, you will have to find a way to tell her that you are fine. This is my way.”

Quiñonez has gone really literal with this, often holding (or getting others to hold) up a sign that actually reads, “Mom, I’m fine” in his pictures.

In addition Quiñonez himself, grinning adorably, the photos feature the incredibly gorgeous locations in South America that he’s currently exploring. Even when he’s doing something that appears perhaps a little reckless (skydiving, hanging out with a crocodile), he’s thinking of his mom and working to make sure she knows that he’s all right.

Quiñonez is clearly a good son with a wonderful sense of humor, and we’re going to keep following him to see where and how he tells his mom he’s okay next. As much as his page is giving us a serious case of wanderlust, though, we have to say — we’re more envious about the fact that we didn’t come up with his method of doing so first.
