Today is Transgender Day of Visibility, and this year’s theme is more important than ever

While the gay rights movement has made huge strides in the last few years — securing marriage equality, for example, and gaining some workplace protections at the state and federal levels — transgender folks still face widespread discrimination, not to mention high rates of violence. That’s why, for this year’s Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), the theme is more important than ever: Trans resistance.

For this year’s event, organizers are going beyond visibility and celebrating resistance to anti-trans violence and lawmaking by highlighting those who are on the front lines of the fight for transgender liberation.
