The trailer for the documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest” is giving us goosebumps that won’t go away
HBO Documentary Films have covered a number of fascinating human interest stories throughout the years and the next documentary you’re going to want to see is Mommy Dead and Dearest. While the title might make you think it’s a follow-up to Mommie Dearest about Joan Crawford, the trailer for Mommy Dead and Dearest shows the story of Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose Blancharde is a far more twisted — and deadlier — tale about mothers and daughters.
If you don’t know about Dee Dee and Gypsy Blancharde, it’s a real-life horror story, as BuzzFeed outlined in a thorough report. Although the article is long, true crime fanatics will want to go through the details. But first, let’s see what the trailer reveals about this family.

As the trailer indicates, Gypsy was a child who suffered from several physical and mental illnesses and her mother, Dee Dee, was her full-time caregiver. However, while Dee Dee seemed like a caring and devoted mother to her teenage daughter, who was wheelchair-bound and had the mental capacity of a 7-year-old, the truth is nowhere near that.
Their story is actually one of Munchausen syndrome by proxy — a form of child abuse where a parent fakes an illness for his or her child.
But no one knew their dark secret when Dee Dee was found dead on June 14th, 2015, and a Facebook status (that is still available online) was posted to her wall that said:
"That Bitch is dead!
Gypsy Rose was implicated in her mother’s murder and the documentary will outline this story of deception and manipulation.
As completely horrifying and tragic as Mommy Dead and Dearest will be, we have a feeling that the documentary could be the next The Jinx or Making a Murderer because of the public’s fascination with such chilling stories. And you can see for yourself when Mommy Dead and Dearest premieres on HBO on May 15th at 10 p.m. ET.
