This new trailer for the Amy Winehouse doc is hauntingly real

If Kurt Cobain’s Montage of Heck wasn’t enough to get your emotional wheels turning, the new Amy Winehouse documentary is sure to send your heart into a tailspin.

Simply entitled Amy, the documentary takes an intimate look at the life, career, and untimely death of British songstress, Amy Winehouse. Directed by Asif Kapaida (Senna) Amy will feature rare, never-before seen footage and previously unheard tracks from the late singer. The documentary will also feature interviews from ex-boyfriend Blake Fiedler-Civil, her friend/collaborator Mos Def, and her producer Salaam Remi.

The two-minute clip, released today, details Winehouse’s innocent beginnings, sudden rise to fame, and subsequent decline into substance abuse. Though there are happy moments strewn throughout the trailer, Winehouse’s untimely death makes even the lightest moments that much more tragic.

Winehouse, who quickly rose to international attention with songs like “Rehab,” “Back to Black” and “Valerie,” died in 2011 of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27. To this day, she is still one of the most talented and most beloved British singers of our generation.

The film is set to be released on  July 3rd  in New York, Los Angeles and the UK. The film will be released internationally on July 10th, just weeks shy of the anniversary of Winehouse’s death.
